First Day of School

Today was Kathleen's first day of 1st grade and Brandon's first day of Preschool. Both were ecstatic. They even dressed themselves (hence Kathleen's black skirt and brown socks and shoes).

Kathleen's school is brand new this year and they grossly underestimated the number of students attending and added a new class to each grade level. Since they didn't have time to hire new teachers, these select classes get a sub their first week of school (fun, fun). Of course, Kathleen is in one of these classes.

Also, her bus never came. Yeah, good choice to ride the bus on the first day. This random bus driver picked kids up when she drove by and we waved her down. I called the school just to make sure she actually made it. Overall, a fairly disastrous day, although Kathleen would never know it. Kids are so great that way. At least she made it home on the bus; quite a few kids didn't. Panicking moms were running amok through our subdivision yesterday.
Brandon gets to go to a Christian preschool with a couple of his buddies. He is pretty excited about that.

Whew, Kathleen made it home.

Ward Campout

This weekend we had our first ever "Ward" Camp out. It was super fun. Our kids got FILTHY. Mostly it was on account of this big and steep hill that instead of keeping the kids it, allowed them to escape because it was too steep for parents to get up there.

Cody won the dirtiest kid award. This was after we cleaned him up from the dirt from the hill.
The kids played with, you guessed it, sticks. It entertained them for probably an hour. And yes, that is a fake fire you see at the bottom.
Chelsea was kind enough to watch Cody while Ryan and I took our tent down. It was sooooooo much faster that way then a couple weeks ago when we went camping on our own.

Kathleen, who is terrified of animals on account of her cat attack, has decided recently that she wants a dog. I would love to get her one and think a little time spent with a dog would teach her that animals are mostly nice. However, her father hates animals and will have nothing to do with it (yet). But on our camp out she got to have some exposure to dogs and really warmed up to Badger, who she was never separated from once she got used to her.
Goodbye Badger.

Soccer

Kathleen and Brandon both started soccer last week. Here is Brandon:

Here is Kathleen (who apparently kicks equally well with both feet).

Say, "Cheese!"

Uncle Dan, Primary Activity

The kids had a primary activity with water games. They sure had a good time.

We went with Uncle Dan to the lake the same day. I guess Brandon got worn out on the way there. He was so excited that he wore his life jacket in the car. Good thing, because it kept him safe when he fell asleep.

Uncle Dan (not really an uncle, the kids just call him that because he is AWESOME) is super fun with the kids.

Kathleen got to drive the boat all by herself. Crazy, I know.

Rhubarb Pie

Friday night, Ryan took me to see Macbeth in an outdoor amphitheater. It was sooooo much fun.
I decided to be a fun mom this week, so we made sugar cookies. I blew it and didn't get a picture of Cody so cute, head to foot in flour. But I did get some of them decorating/eating.

I learned how to make rhubarb pie this week with rhubarb we grew in our yard, thanks to Kevin (a friend of Ryan's from work who is a pie pro). And yes, I spilled on my shirt.

Where do the boys go when they disappear?
